Beard caps

Nothing says “I’m jolly trendy” more than experimental facial hair. However, some people lack the balls (literally and figuratively) to grow their own, so alternatives are always popular.

Vik Prjónsdóttir is an Icelandic collective which makes high-concept designs in a small village in Southern Iceland . Its collection includes – alongside the beard cap – a knitted jumpsuit which makes you look like a psychedelic baby seal. The “twosome” is a sofa-sized blanket with two hoods.

The Beard Cap comes in grey, brown and black in two lengths. It was inspired by a traditional farmer’s balaclava. Except those didn’t have moustaches attached. It costs $135(US) and – outside Iceland – is only available from one shop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn .

Knit your own: At a London meeting of radical knitters Stitch ’n’ Bitch, there was at least one ZZ Top-length knitted beard on display; others can be viewed at photo-sharing website Flickr.
