Meet Alba, a transgenic bunny that fluoresced green (when exposed to uv light … okay, not exactly glow in the dark - but close enough) thanks to a jellyfish gene for Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP). Alba was genetically engineered by Eduardo Kac in 2000:

"Alba", the green fluorescent bunny, is an albino rabbit. This means that, since she has no skin pigment, under ordinary environmental conditions she is completely white with pink eyes. Alba is not green all the time. She only glows when illuminated with the correct light. When (and only when) illuminated with blue light (maximum excitation at 488 nm), she glows with a bright green light (maximum emission at 509 nm). She was created with EGFP, an enhanced version (i.e., a synthetic mutation) of the original wild-type green fluorescent gene found in the jellyfish Aequorea Victoria. EGFP gives about two orders of magnitude greater fluorescence in mammalian cells (including human cells) than the original jellyfish gene.

Engagement recovery, hot chickery & squash

Tonight I went around to my old house for the last time, picked up the keys my old housemates had left for me, and deposited them in the slot in the old door at our old real estate.

In my last post i mentioned that i was going out for my cousins engagement party, and that i wasn't going to have a big night. Yeh right! What was I thinking? 6am we left the last club. What a great night. Here are a couple of choice pics from the night...

So yeh, that, and the recovery from that, was pretty much my weekend. The week so far has been good, as usual quite full-on though. Mick and I played squash tonight... I think I won overall, but I did take a terrific smash to the face for my troubles. The price of victory, my friends!

Oh, I almost forgot! Other news... work is sending me to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) for a week. I'm hurriedly getting all the details together for my passport. Yippee! Can't wait for that one.

Well, that about wraps up this post I believe. Till next time, be well.

OK Go - Here It Goes Again

...a fantastic music video

view from my new flat... in the rain

Wherever I boot, that's my home...

I took Thursday & Friday off work this week to move house. More correctly, moving from a house to a flat. I haven't 'flatted' since I lived in Wagga, so i guess that makes it about 7 years. I still have a few things to move (guitar stuff, plants, easel), but I'm pretty much set up.

Today I'm going to my cousin Stephens engagement party in the city. It's going to be a pretty laid back affair, and I won't be having a huge one, due to having to pay rent in two places this pay period. My sister is going to be there (haven't seen her in about a year) and friend Kristin is coming along too. It's going to be a great afternoon.

It poured rain yesterday... I'm glad I moved all my electronics the day before. It looked like it was going to be a bit clearer today, but as I look out my window, I notice ominous black clouds lurking not too far away...
